Jeremy Furnish
In Residence January 1 - July 31, 2024
Astoria Visual Arts welcomes our newest artist-in-residence, Jeremy Furnish, a multi-disciplinary artist. Over the next six months, Furnish will make artwork in a rent-free studio space located in the Astoria Studio Collective.
Furnish is founder of the Clatskanie Artists Network and was awarded the 2019 Coastal Oregon Artist Residency (COAR). He was also awarded a commission to build the Regatta Monument on the Astoria waterfront next to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in honor of the boat race’s 125th year.
During his residency, Furnish plans to create 2D, 3D, and illuminated found-object works inspired by the love of storytelling through thoughtful visual arrangements and assemblage. With objects collected daily, he will create small-to-medium cohesive bodies of work that suggest a balance between nature and the modern world. In an ongoing search for a deeper connection, and the motivation to move the viewers of his work, he’ll work toward capturing their emotions through discover.
The AVA a-i-r program is supported by the members of Astoria Visual Arts and the generosity of community businesses Astoria Coffeehouse & Bistro and Fine Art Supply.
