AVA a-i-r January 1 - June 30, 2025

Astoria Visual Arts is pleased to announce that Astorian Paul Soriano has been selected as AVA’s newest artist-in-residence. Soriano will receive a free studio space in the Astoria Studio Collector for six months and reduced cost of art supplies courtesy of Fine Art Supply.

Soriano, a former Portland gallerist, will be working on a series of oil on wood monotone floral paintings exploring the loss of love, of youth, all there is except mere breath.

Central to all Soriano’s work is an underlying love of color. After taking a hiatus from art during the pandemic, Soriano found himself creatively empty for the first time. Upon moving to Astoria a little over a year ago, however, he rediscovered a sense of community and a renewed connection with family. This shift in his life sparked a new creative chapter. While color remains central, Soriano's latest work delves into the world of Grisaille—tonal underpainting—as he processes loss in a way he has never done before.

Meet Soriano and see his latest work in progress during Artwalk through June.
