Their Our Story: Damion Triplett

 August 3-7, 2022

Portland artist Damion Triplett was inspired to create the zine Their Our Story after two impactful events: the George Floyd murder on May 25, 2020, which triggered memories of his own personal experience as a person of color wrongfully assaulted by the police. He slowly began sketching the faces of police brutality victims starting with George Floyd and Breonna Taylor eventually creating a zine with twelve victims including face #13 which represents the “unknown victim.” This was a nod to the 13th amendment which abolished slavery.

Triplett’s zine is a small literary work with hand-drawn illustrations printed at Premier Press and comes with a set of stamps printed by the Portland Stamp Company. The project was fully self-funded and the zines were printed on symbolically brown paper.

The author’s talk will cover his personal story about why he created the zine, the process of making it, and the project so far. A number of complimentary zines will be provided to attendees who visit the exhibit and/or attend Triplett’s talk while supplies last. Any donations received will be donated by Triplett to a variety of BLM-supportive charity organizations. The event will follow all current state-required Covid safe protocols and will be mask friendly.

The exhibit runs from August 3rd - 7th, and the Gallery will be open 12- 4 each day.

Meet the artist and learn more about the project at a free public talk: Saturday, August 6 at 4 pm.
